Harry Otto Becker was of Hinton Lodge, Darsham when he died at Ipswich Hospital on 10 September 1928, aged 62 when his wife was granted a civil pension of £70 for his work in the arts. His wife and daughter were taken 'under the wing' of Dorothy Loftus and her family at Southwold.

His German parents had emigrated to Colchester in 1857 where his father established himself as a well respected GP. The young Becker showed early promise and was encouraged and supported by his father.

Harry Becker died of pneumonia in 1928 and is buried in Blythburgh churchyard. Just a couple of years later, the author Adrian Bell, who had been farming in West Suffolk while Harry Becker was painting in East Suffolk, began publishing his Suffolk trilogy comprising of Corduroy, Silver Ley and The Cherry Tree.

Harry Becker (1865-1928) Harry Becker was born in Colchester to a German doctor father, he attended the Royal Academy Schools at Antwerp and the Paris studio of portrait painter Carolus Duran. France provided inspiration in the form of Degas and the Impressionists, whom Becker greatly admired.
